We recently took a look at Ultimate Custom Widget (UCCW) and showed you how it can be used to create stunning and versatile home screen widgets. But if you don’t feel included, or don’t have the time to create your own from scratch, there are plenty of ready-made widgets for you to download. Here are some of the highlights.
Take a browse through Google Play and you’ll find all manner of impressive UCCW Skins to choose from, whatever sort of look and functionality you’re after. These are a great option if you are unsure of your own talents, or you just feel like having someone else do all of the hard work for you. You can install these skins as you would do apps, and when you add a new UCCW widget from your homescreen, all you have to do is pick one of these skins to see it applied.
Dark Led Clock
A simple, no-nonsense skin that provides at-a-glance details about what you need to know. Time is displayed in 12 or 24-hour formats, along with the date and time. You’ll also find a battery meter and handy temperature and weather forecast for your current locations.
Peek
It’s worth noting that this skin works slightly differently to the rest that are mentioned in this article. Once you’ve downloaded it from Google Play, rather than heading straight to the UCCW app, you should instead launch the skin from the home screen and you’ll be prompted to download it. Once this has been done you can work with the skin in the usual way and you’ll find that there are horizontal and vertical versions available which you can personalize with custom colors and links.
Buttonized v2
In its own right, this may seem like a fairly ordinary and slightly unimpressive skin. But in fact this has been designed to match up with the developer’s Buttonized v2 Apex Nova GO Theme. No editing or customization is possible, but it looks great nonetheless.
Utopian
Utopian is a stylish skin available in four varieties. Each version displays the current time, temperature and battery level, in addition to four customizable links which can be used to access apps and websites.
Vertical
A great-looking and highly function skin which is perfect for phones. In addition to the date, time and weather forecast, you’ll also find notifications for text messages and missed calls.
Sense 5
HTC Sense receives a great deal of praise, and this is understandable given the stunning looks and pleasing user experience. The look and feel can be brought to any Android device with this stylish skin. The flip clock, weather and date sections include four customizable hotspots that can be tweaked to provide access to your favorite apps and tools.
Circle Menu
Good looks abound with this UCCW skin. There are five hotspots that are used to access, by default, Chrome, Twitter, Kik, Play Music, and Play Store. Stretch and squash it to make it whatever size you like.
Chalkboard
Quirky looks are the order of the day here. The cartoony chalkboard shows the date and time, and there’s a single hotspot built in that you can customize to access whatever you feel you use most often.
Battery Bar
Skins don’t get much simpler than this! A basic line shows you how much battery life you have left, and there are different colored variants available.
Stripes
Sleek is the word for the Stripes skin. For control freaks, there are a colossal nine customizable hotspots. By default these are linked to associated apps – the message counter links to your messaging app, but you are free to mix things up however you want. But it is the wealth of information that really impresses here – everything you need is visible at a glance.
Modern
Basic but informative, this is a simple text based skin that just displays the date and time in a clear sans serif font. Available in center and right justified versions, there is scope for customization if you feel inclined.
Simple Battery Bar
Another battery monitoring skin, this is one that mimics Windows 8’s modern app style and provides slightly more information than just battery level – you can also see what is happening with your battery in terms of charging.
Typography
Another very modern-looking text based skin that shows date and time in a minimalist style.
GS3 ish Weather
If you’ve looked longingly at the widgets included with the Samsung Galaxy SIII, this could be the skin you have been waiting for. There is potential for customization as there are various hotspots ready for you to work with, but you have a stylish skin right from the start. Perfect for phones and tablets.
Holler!
A skin to help you focus on time and battery life. There are various time formats to choose from with a lovely capsule look into which can be integrated a battery meter that blends in beautifully.
